Are we drinking enough water?
We all know it's important to stay hydrated but do we really understand why?
Here are a few of the reasons why water is so important for our health.
Over 60% of the average human body is made up of water
Water boosts skin health and beauty
Water helps regulate our body temperature - we sweat as the body heats up.
It helps lessons the burdon on the kidneys and liver - flushing waste and toxins from our body. It may also helps reduce bladder infections
The bowel needs water to work effectively - staying hydrated helps prevent constipation
Water helps lubricate our joints Around 90% of our blood is water and our blood carries oxygen around our bodies. Water helps dissolve minerals & nutrients to make them accessible to the body too. Dehydration can cause headaches and migranes Water may improve how we perform when exercising - there has been alot of research into dehydration and the affects on sports performance. We can live along time without food but we NEED water to STAY LIVE
Having read the list above, why is water not at the top of our daily list of priorities? Here are a few tips to help you stay hydrated.
If you feel hungry, go for a glass of water first - our brain often mistakes hunger and thirst.
Try not to drink ice cold water - the body does not absorb water until it reaches body temperature
Fill a jug each morning with water - leave it somewhere visible
As you go to click the kettle on - drink a glass of water while it boils!
Make drinking water a habit!
Finally, to ensure you are drinking enough water daily, try this calculation which was given to me by a lovely friend who is a Nutritionist. weight in kgs X 0.033 = litres of water required daily This includes herbal teas but not regular tea and coffee. Let me know how you get on!!
